Building Performance Standards: A Win-Win Scenario
March 24, 2022 @ 9:00 am - 10:30 am
Join the City of Grand Rapids, GR2030 District, and Urban Core Collective as we launch the Equitable, Healthy Zero Carbon Building (E.H.Zero) virtual series. The E.H.Zero initiative aims to equitably achieve affordability, positive health outcomes, and resilience while reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions in buildings. The desired outcome of E.H.Zero is to co-create policies & programs with our community that will transform our city and create long-term impacts for substantive change.
With building operation emissions accounting for nearly 30% of the globe’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, it is befitting to look at the management of building operations as a key player in reducing our collective GHGs. Dozens of municipalities are incorporating Building Performance Standards (BPS) as an avenue to achieve robust community GHG reductions. In its simplest form, BPS set targets overtime to make measurable reductions using metrics such as energy use, carbon, etc. This webinar will answer how Grand Rapids could benefit from integrating BPS, and discuss key example cities to visualize how this could be implemented in our city.
Join Tara Brown, City Solutions Manager at Institute for Market Transformation, Ben Rabe, Project Manager with the Codes and Policy Team at New Building Institute, and panelist peer stakeholders to learn what BPS is and how it has worked for cities similar to Grand Rapids.
